"Assume Repentance Stance One, Please"

Hello hello hello again everybody! Coming live from the birthplace of Currituck BBQ's $2 Tuesdays, it's Elder McMullin! As always, feel free to send me any frozen turkeys or canberry sauce, and I will happily enjoy them. So, without further ado, here we go!

This week has been a little rougher for the work. We had two exchanges and a mission-wide training, which didn't help our time out. We still found 2 new people which was lit, but ECSU has shut down for the holidays, cutting our teaching pool own from actually interested 20 year olds to over 60 Baptists who quasi-politely try to convert us or Hermanos who can't speak English. Speaking of Hermanos, Ivan is currently in Colombia visiting his family, so that's great. But! We are already found someone last night who was really cool, and are set to find a couple more through lessons. Plus, quite a few friends (meaning 4) came to church, so things are moving in a good direction!
Highlight of the week was meeting Patricia. She is a very sweet old lady with pretty bad dementia who requested we come by. We knocked and E. Griffiths accidentally took the door off of one hinge, and I rang the doorbell when the plastic cracked under my mighty thumb. We were about to leave as the house was in obvious disrepair, but I felt the spirit tugging me behind the house. We went, and met Patricia. She told us about her CIA days, how hurricane Katrina wrecked her, and how her family is continuing to rob her of her retirement. Now, she lives in a trailer on borrowed land. But the faith we saw in her eyes was incredible. She wasn't interested in converting, but we shared a message of hope and loved the interaction. I can testify that even if someone isn't interested, we can still be Christlike. Christ taught many who never went into the River Jordan, and the greatest missionary ever (Paul) was often unsuccessful. But they never stopped showing that love of Christ- something I hope all of us can be better at.
To explain the title line, we had PORTSMOUTH DAY on Tuesday! For those who don't know, Norfolk and Portsmouth are sister cities, right across Elizabeth river from each other. However, Norfolk is the fancy, run-by-the-government/navy side, and Portsmouth is frumpy, run-by-the-dealers/casino. So, it was a pretty fun day. The best part was meeting Charles. Not to be confused with bush Charles, Portsmouth Charles is the street sweeper in old town- the only street sweeper, by the looks of it. He rambled to us for a solid 30 minutes about how to be better followers of Christ, when he just doubles over on hands and knees. Heavily breathing, he just stands there until Elder Bisset nervously asks if everything's OK. He then stands back up and runs with surprising agility back to us and said "dont'cha see? I was repenting! Then he goes back to "repentance stance" for another Lil bit while Elder Bisset and I try to retreat to Chik-fil-A. Our retreat fails, and we get another sermon on how we can repent all throughout the day, not just at night. I wholeheartedly agree, but I don't think we have to look like we're going through an especially difficult bathroom run to do so.
Anyways, excited to talk to yall next week, and have a great Thanksgiving!
