Feudalism Really Sucks This Time Of Year
Well howdy again everyone! Coming live about 3 hours from the infamous lost colony of Roanoke, it's Elder McMullin! As always, if you would like to send me any tinfoil balls or odd recordings of Auld Lang Syne, I will happily accept! But, without further ado, here we go!
This week was absolute buns for work. The delicate combination of Christmas eve and day, P-day, and two exchanges meant I spent a full one day in my own area. And of course, no one was found and we had zero lessons on said one day, so KI reporting was real fun. On the bright side, I hammed it up to the ZLs, who took our horrible performance as more of a "comedy of errors" and we received no backlash. This week is already going to be better, as we are up 200% in NP and some of our friends should be coming back from break. But! Let it be known that we did NOT pull zeros- we got one person to sacrament! She may have been our eternigator and has come faithfully for like a year, but still... numbers!!!
Speaking of numbers, we officially crossed the 7 month mark, and are heading headlong into the Black Year! While it's been a ride to get here, it's a little intimidating to know that I still have 12 months until the end is in sight. But, as the best Gospel (Luke, obviously) says, "with God, nothing shall be impossible." As long as faith is kept and work is continuously dumped in, and with a liberal splash of good luck, I know that God can make some fantastic things happen.
To explain the title line, we have been experiencing the power chain something fierce out here. Remember how I said I only had one day in my own area? Well, that's due to Portsmouth. We had our exchange there on the 26th, and managed to find 4 people on the exchange between us, 2 of which were caused by Elder Griffiths and I. Then, we moved into exchanges with Albermarle, where I graciously went to their area to check it out. After finding someone for THEM, we had nothing to show for our own area. And, to really top off the cake, the Elders Quorum President called us in on a moving project today, irregardless of the most sacred and holy day of Missionay life, and said it'd be a quick 30 min box-shuffler.
That was a dixism. (For those unfamiliar, "dixism" is a term coined after Dix McMullin, my Grandpa who always guessed work projects would take about 20% of the time they actually took).
So, two and a bit hours later, we moved a 30 ft U-haul up 14 stairs into a 2-2.5 house, with no one but the Albermarle elders (who we forced to come), David our 70ish recent convert with a bad back, and the son of the lady moving, who really liked to chat at the top of the stairs whilst the rest of us hauled things like China cabinets and boxes full of Billy Graham books. All in all though, they were very appreciative, and the warm feeling in my heart was enough of a reward- as long as the warmth wasn't a sign of early cardiac arrest from those dang stairs.
In all seriousness though, I hope all of yall have a spectacular new year, and I'm excited to see what adventures we all can expect from 2025!
From your favorite human forklift,
Elder McMullin
