The Tomfoolery Continues, Yet So Do I
Howdy again everyone! Coming live from my soon-to-be-six-month home, it's Elder McMullin! As always, if you would like to send me any North Carolina merch or a calendar, please send it my way and I will happily accept! But, without further ado, here we go!
First up on the docket, it's transfer week! You may have guessed it from my cryptically worded intro and header, but I will be spending another 6 weeks in the land down under (Virginia)! I halfway expected it, but the prospect of walking these same stupid streets another month and a half has me a little wary. But! Our friends are processing and new ones keep popping up left, right, and center, so maybe it won't be as bad as I think. The real fun begins when you zoom out of E city into the Zone. We got Texas Chainsaw Massacred as a whole, as two companionships got whitewashed and a District disassembled. You see, our ZLs were in Portsmouth (a notorious hood where all 3 elect people were either members or inactives), but another area named Mt. Pleasant was doing better than them. So, in true ZL style, they claimed it for themselves and booted the previous two out. With all this shuffling, EVERY OTHER COMPANIONSHIP in the Zone has been dumped into one megadistrict of 11 people... without the Kings of Karolina. We still function as our independent nation under the state line, which brings me to my next qualm: Elder Rinquest is coming to serve in Albemarle, meaning I have to DL over my mission dad. Plus, Elder Mills is my new ZL, so it's one fat reunion tour with my MTC comp, trainer, breaker, and me all within 20 miles of each other.
But the fun doesn't stop there! For those who enjoy watching high pressure and low pressure fronts clash dramatically, you'll know the eastern seaboard got pounded with snow this week. Usually 4-6 inches will cause confusion and delay, but we got hit with 8. Cars were sliding. We almost got hit. The EMS sirens didn't stop for a day and a half. But still we persevered, valiantly making calls in the warm church building where rear-wheel-drivers couldn't hurt us. However, we had to have a little bit of frosty fun, so Elder Juncker and I revolutionized the art of "sled finding", where you go sledding for 10 minutes to blend in and then ask all the parents to church. It didn't work all that well, but we had a great time doing it! The only problem is that E city is flat as a week old Coke, so the only place to go sledding was off the freeway overpass hill. It was all fenced off and protected from cars, but the irrigation ditch at the bottom that a foolish Elder McMullin didn't notice did cause some irk.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, we got absorbed in a 4-hour moving project because no one else from Currituck could come, tried to force myself into a random person's house because I thought they were a member (and may have driven on their lawn by accident), and was part of the most ambitious parody of the transfer that has gained Zone-wide fame. You see, we're officially designated as the "Chesapeake Choo Choos", and it was our job to announce our zonewide focus for the day. So while it was snowing and I was valiantly making calls, Elder Juncker used some️movie magic to create a scene-by-scene rework of Thomas the Train- complete with intro song by yours truly. I've attac hed it below, and let it be written, let it be known that it is now the STLs official alarm, and it has been watched at least 4 times by each companionship.
All jokes aside, this week was a little wacky (hence the tomfoolery in the intro line), but the work is exciting. I've seen incredible miracles in this crazy little city, and I only expect more as the Lord isn't quite done with me here. I know I am staying for something, what it is I can only guess, but I know this next transfer will have something incredible, something Godly, and something just for Elder McMullin- even if I had to wait 6 months for it.
