They Ran George Strait And Rick Astley Out Of Town
Hello again, everyone! Coming live from the town where 3 streets cover the entire commercial sector, it's Elder McMullin! As always, if you would like to send me any binoculars or a book on NC law, I would happily take it. But, without further ado, here we go!
This week was real special for work. While we did get 2 new people and LMPs in spades, only one of them came to church. And it was Cody. However, after church packed a punch, as a family I had never seen before strolled in and started for us. The children were quickly swooped up by the Sunday School like large predatory birds sensing new flesh, and we snagged the family history center to talk to the mom. Turns out, she was one of our yellow dots who couldn't make it for first hour but wanted a bible study. She was throwing us mildly judgemental looks as we settled down and started with a prayer, when the whole vibe changed. After a basic supplication, she turns to us and says with unusual bluntness: "I thought your church didn't believe in Jesus or the Holy Ghost. Now I know you do. There is a lot of misinformation about your church online, but now I see what it really is. Expect to see more of me here." She didn't even take or see the sacrament, but knew there was something special about us. One fresh BOM later, and she is now our second most progressing friend! First is still Cody, who should be getting off of nicotine this week and who's date is about to cement on the 29th!
In other news, the megadistrict is as problematic as I thought it would be. ZLC (The fancy meeting where the ZLs and the DLs meet together to throw insults and plan the week) was just plain annoying, as 90% of it was trying to figure out what to do for District P day, where District council was being held, KIs for the megadistrict, how great it is to be in the megadistrict, with nice little derogatory comments thrown my way about the Kings of Karolina. I took it on the chin, but man is that going to be frustrating. Hopefully it gets better as the transfer ages and the honeymoon phase wears out.
Speaking of the Honeymoon phase, it seems to be wearing off for the entirety of Elizabeth City. As the title line implies, the whole town seems to have 0 careless whispers left and they are, in fact, gonna give you up AND let you down. I say this because Cody canceled church on us as he was in Ohio trying to annul his marriage (with advice from our friend Kathy who's been in his situation before), our friend Gina is coming out of a nasty divorce which is what brought her to the church, and a member in our ward who just got served papers this weekend- and who's first line of coping was us. It's been a heavy dose of reality to try and keep spirits up as family units are splitting like atom bombs around us, but I know God's love never ceases. Some of my favorite mission memories are with these people and promising them love when they feel none left. I know God has a plan for everyone, even if they are in a situation where hope doesn't reside and life is at its worst- which is probably the point where God works best. And despite us being clean-up crew, therapists, Pinkertons, and HOPE Squad, His love will never leave you, me, or anyone else.
But, after all that, I hope yall have a great rest of your week, and I'm excited to talk to yall again very soon!
